Masters in Academic Advising

Kansas State University offers an online Masters of Science in Academic Advising (30 credit hours)  in addition to a Certificate in Academic Advising (15 credit hours).

“Kansas State University’s academic advising graduate programs are designed for practicing academic advisors, administrators, faculty, and future professional advisors seeking to enhance their knowledge and ability to work effectively with college students in their academic and career planning.”

Here the degree objectives, and the program of study I completed. The masters program requires the submission of an electronic portfolio for graduation. I am proud to say that my portfolio has been selected to be posted on the KSU website as an example for others to view. My experience in the program was enjoyable and I learned a lot about academic advising and higher education. If you are an academic advisor, or want to be one, this is a good program to enroll in.

“Developmental counseling or advising is concerned not only with a specific personal or vocational decision but also with facilitating the student's rational processes, environmental and interpersonal interactions, behavioral awareness, and problem-solving, decision-making, and evaluation skills.” – Crookston, 1972

“Academic advising is the only structured service on the campus in which all students have the opportunity for on-going, one-to-one contact with a concerned representative of the institution.” - W. R. Hably
