Leadership

No matter my job title, I always consider myself a leader. I guide, direct and help the team to achieve the goals of the organization. Sometimes I have done that as the top person on the departmental org chart, and sometimes I have done that from farther down the org chart. Leadership can be found anywhere in an organization, and I am happy to develop new leaders.

I understand that as a recognized leader of the organization, what I say, how I act and what I do has a significant impact on the people in my department, and on the morale and effectiveness of the organization. Leadership is not an 8 to 5 job – it’s 24 x 7.

As a manager, a supervisor and a leader... it’s my job to help my team, my department, and my co-workers to be successful. It’s my job to ensure each person on the team understands how their work affects the lives of others. It’s my job to help each person do their best work – work they can be proud of. It’s my job to help each person develop into who they want to become, who they dream of being. It’s my job to ensure each person feels my gratitude, and the gratitude of the top leaders of the organization, for the work they are doing.

It is my goal to treat each member of my team as an individual person, with their own skills, hopes, dreams, and challenges. I am inclusive and appreciate a diversity of ideas, knowledge, and backgrounds. I believe that everyone in the organization deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. I always have the back of my team covered and will not allow anyone to bully them, show them disrespect, or strip them of their dignity.

As a manager I sometimes have to dive in to guide and direct the work of others, and at other times I have to back off and let others do the work for which they were hired. Knowing when to do which is the Art of Management.
